Meet your neighborhood marsh
One of the many pleasures of living in the Bayview neighborhood is the Bay itself! And a great place to enjoy the San Francisco Bay environment is Heron’s Head Park.
Heron’s Head Park is a wonderful testament to marsh restoration. Located on what was formerly Pier 98, the approximately 25-acre park is now home to snowy egrets, herons, cormorants and other water birds. Walking paths, a playground, an award-winning ecocenter , bird viewing areas and spectacular views of downtown and the East Bay make this a pleasant place to spend an hour—or an afternoon.
The EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park is the Bay Area’s first environmental justice education center. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities to help with marsh restoration and planting of native plants.
