But without a doubt, the work we’ve been doing with the Free MUNI for youth coalition has the potential to impact positively the greatest number of young people. –And the moment of truth is this month! To date, with the overwhelming support of so many community members, the Free MUNI for Youth Coalition has convinced the SFMTA Board of Directors to contribute $4.3 million to making MUNI free for low-income youth. The total budget for a two year pilot project is about $9.5 million. A few weeks ago, we secured another $400 thousand from the SF Transportation Authority for the program. Now, we need to get the remainder of the funds. And our target is the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), a intergovernmental body. Please save the date and come with us to these critical meetings at the MTC’s Oakland headquarters (literally right next to BART–very easy to get to!)

We will attempt to give these young men some skills to put into their tool boxes that will help them become the men and fathers that we know they all aspire to be. This will all be done in a safe and confidential environment in which they can feel supported by their peers, where they will not feel judged. This group will allow them to learn from one another, and also be able to critique each other on a peer to peer level. There will also be an all day Saturday workshop to teach participants how to properly use the equipment, pre and post production, and other skills needed for this project and to make their own movies/videos.
