The historical contributions of the people of the Bayview-Hunters Point community should be remembered. As a result, Lennar and the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency have created the Cultural/Historic Recognition Program (CHIRP). A program that will be fostered in an urban design process, CHIRP will afford opportunities for local artists and community members to participate in creating public art for the Shipyard.
The CHIRP program offers community creative programs such as the 500 square foot tile exhibit from youth participants from the Bayview Opera House, the artistic structuring of the International African Marketplace, and a historical timeline walkway from the Galvez Steps to the Interim African Marketplace that borders the San Francisco Bay.
The search is on for local artists and community members who would like to contribute their vision to this artistic portion of the Shipyard by becoming members of the CHIRP’s Exploratory Committee.
