Hunters Point Shipyard

Parcel A

Phase I is the foundation to the Shipyard’s redevelopment. Lennar is transforming the Shipyard into new homes, jobs and parks that the Bayview-Hunters Point community wants and needs.

Phase I highlights include:

  • 63 total acres
  • Up to 1400 new homes with more than 30% affordable to low-income families
  • 25 acres of new parks, trails and open space featuring spectacular views of the bay and city
  • 9,000 square feet of retail and commercial space for local businesses

From start to finish, the renaissance of the Shipyard from a naval base to a new neighborhood has been guided to a commitment to meeting the needs of the community.

Built on years of public input, the plan:

  • Creates hundreds of jobs for local residents
  • Generate millions of dollars in contracts for local businesses
  • Drives long-term economic development in the community
  • Heals environmentally impacted lands

New Parks and Open Space

Lennar is working with the community to transform the Hunters Point Shipyard into a vibrant, urban neighborhood and livable green community.

The vision will heal land that has been environmentally impacted for years, create an integrated transit system and network of walkable streets and features sustainable, green building programs.

Nearly one-third of the total space in Phase I is devoted to new parks, trails and public recreation areas. The plan includes smaller neighborhood parks and larger community parks and recreation areas that feature extraordinary views of the city skyline and waterfront.

And for the first time in decades, community members and all San Franciscans will have direct access to southeast San Francisco’s shoreline. The new community will be the first neighborhood in San Francisco powered entirely by clean, reliable public power. These efforts will help make the new community a showcase for the nation.

Candlestick-HP II

The next phase of development is underway. A conceptual plan for the dual development of Candlestick Point and the Hunters Point Shipyard has been approved by several city agencies and is progressing through the environmental review process.

The vision for the two waterfront neighborhoods features environmental sustainability, a mix of market-rate and low-income housing, retail and entertainment opportunities, a new stadium for the 49ers and new job-producing commercial office space.

New neighborhoods will be built around an extensive shoreline park and trail system that combines the best features of Crissy Field and Golden Gate Park. Pedestrian walkways will open up the city’s southeast waterfront, providing direct access for residents and visitors to recreational and natural areas.

The use of public transit or alternative forms of transportation is emphasized, reducing automobile dependence. Compact, walkable neighborhoods will encourage interaction among residents. Progressive energy solutions are being explored to better utilize natural resources.

The Alice Griffith public housing project will be completely rebuilt without dislocating current residents as part of the plan. New housing will be built alongside the existing site. Once new housing is built, the current site will be demolished and additional housing built.

The plan also seeks to help accelerate the environmental cleanup of the Hunters Point Shipyard to the standards set by the City of San Francisco, State of California and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The conceptual vision for this plan was adopted by more than 60% of San Francisco voters in June 2008.
