Lennar Donates $10,000 to Rebuilding Together San Francisco

Contribution to help renovate and improve homes for low-income, disabled and elderly Bayview residents - July 12, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO – The Lennar Foundation is giving a $10,000 contribution to Rebuilding Together San Francisco (RTSF), a local community-based organization that refurbishes homes for low-income, disabled and elderly San Francisco residents.

The donation is in recognition of the support and work performed by Associates from Lennar Urban’s San Francisco office on the home of Bayview resident Beverly Fails. Ms. Fails’ home was renovated last year as part of the Rebuilding Together “100,000th Home Celebration” national campaign in conjunction with Lennar’s national “Focused Acts of Caring” campaign.

“One of our highest priorities is a commitment to giving back to the community, and we are proud to contribute to organizations, such as Rebuilding Together SF, that support low-income homeowners and non-profit initiatives each year,” says Kofi Bonner, President of the Lennar Bay Area Urban Division. “We look forward to partnering with them in the future to continue to help other residents of the Bayview community.”

Each year, Lennar selects and adopts a charity organization to work with as part of their “Focused Acts of Caring” campaign. The objective is to provide a combination of financial support for organizations that help change lives in low-income communities, while at the same time, giving their time and energy to those organizations to help them achieve their goals.

Last year, a group of volunteers that included several Associates from Lennar’s San Francisco office renovated the home of Ms. Fails who suffers from a blood disorder that affects her circulation causing blood clots in her legs. From introducing color to the walls, installing grab bars and other safety equipment in the bathrooms, and supplying home furnishings and appliances, Ms. Fails’ home and quality of life were improved.

Lennar’s contribution will help support RTSF’s local repair programs such as “Rebuilding Weekend,” a two-day citywide renovation effort – with thousands of volunteers – that repairs neighborhood facilities and homes of low-income, disabled and elderly San Franciscans. The donation will also help facilitate RTSF’s “Home Safety & Independence program,” which provides improvements that not only make a home safer, but also make it possible for people to live independently for a longer time in their own homes.

“As the recipient of Lennar’s support, Rebuilding Together San Francisco will leverage these funds by increasing the level of free repairs and renovation services we provide to the homes and facilities we serve each year,” says Orlanda Wilson, Construction Project Manager for Rebuilding Together San Francisco. “In April, more than 2,000 volunteers from 50 corporations and community groups made improvements in 18 homes and 20 non-profit facilities throughout the City. Lennar has joined a group of esteemed corporations with a strong commitment to community service. We thank Lennar for their dedication to creating a stronger San Francisco community helps make this work possible.”

RTSF is a local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a national organization that includes more than 270 affiliates serving 550 communities nationwide, and mobilizing thousands of volunteers each year to help support low-income homeowners and non-profit agencies.

“Rebuilding Together has renovated over 100,000 homes nationally. Our renovation at Ms. Fails’ home is representative of over 17 years of safety repairs and security upgrades for seniors, low-income families and persons with disabilities in San Francisco,” says Steven Zapata, Jr., Development Manager of Rebuilding Together San Francisco. “We are proud to have partnered with Lennar during our 100,000 House Celebration. Their generous support has helped Ms. Fails’ home to become safer, healthier, and more comfortable.”

The redevelopment of the 63 acres for the Shipyard’s initial phase includes construction of 1,500 homes, 20 acres of recreation and open space, 10,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, and nine active BVHP Community Benefits Programs.
