
Santa Clara may be months away from giving the 49ers the green light on starting an environmental impact report on a proposed football stadium in the city, but the team's backup city of choice, San Francisco, is zooming ahead.
San Francisco's redevelopment agency this week kicked off work on an environmental impact report on the proposed redevelopment of Candlestick Point and the Hunters Point Shipyard. The project is expected to include housing, shopping and entertainment and perhaps a proposed San Francisco 49ers' stadium - if a proposed stadium in Santa Clara falls through.
Environmental consultants started visiting the sites and researching traffic patterns as part of what is expected to be a two-year process to determine how the project will affect the area with traffic, pollution and in other ways.
