Lennar Selects Woman-Owned Business For Mentorship-Protégé Program

SAN FRANCISCO - Lennar announced today the selection of Clayton-Bisch Developments, Inc. for their new protégé as part of the Minority Business Enterprise/Women Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) Mentorship Program for the Hunters Point Shipyard redevelopment project. As a protégé, Clayton-Bisch will work directly with Lennar to gain valuable skills for opportunities on the Shipyard and in future business endeavors.

The MBE/WBE Mentorship Program is the first-ever program designed to create a professional mentoring partnership between contractors and Bayview Hunters Point businesses, and helps provide a host of economic opportunities for local community members. The program offers opportunities for local businesses to receive job experience from experienced mentors and industry leaders, such as Lennar, who are committed to helping aspiring contractors grow professionally.

"One of our highest priorities is a commitment to giving back to the community, and we are proud to support small, emerging MBE/WBE businesses in the BVHP Area, such as Clayton-Bisch Developments," says Clem Clarke, Lennar/BVHP Community Benefits Manager. "The Mentorship-Protégé program provides job training and business development skills that help small businesses grow and succeed."

Clayton-Bisch Developments, Inc. is a woman-owned business enterprise established in April 2004 that offers project management services to real estate developers. Some of their services include:

"We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to learning skills that can help our business succeed," says Detra Lelaind, CEO of Clayton-Bisch Developments. "Without Lennar's support, a program like this wouldn't exist."

The company also benefits from the leadership of President Edward Donaldson who brings a wealth of expertise in real estate acquisition and finance. Mr. Donaldson was born and raised in the Bayview and continues to play a prominent role in the community.

Lennar's Mentorship-Protégé Program Manager, Alton Byrd, says the program's success shows Lennar's strong commitment to supporting the suite of Community Benefits Programs that are part of the redevelopment of the Hunters Point Shipyard.

"It is clear that Lennar is committed to doing something that other builders haven't tried to do before, which is build community relations. I believe there are a number of opportunities for the community to really get involved with the Community Benefits Programs, from education to job training to the various business building resources," Mr. Byrd says.
