Part Time Job Opportunity (Approx. 15 hrs per week @ $15/hour) Term: Until June 2014 (extension past 2014 dependent on funding) Reports to: Food Guardian Project Coordinator Project Overview The Southeast Food Access (SEFA) Working Group works to ensure that healthy, fresh, sustainable, and affordable produce is accessible to all residents of the BVHP. SEFA works in three main areas: Nutrition Education and Awareness, Urban Agriculture, and Food Access. The Food Guardians are central to SEFA’s mission and are the most visible outreach, education, and community organizing arm of SEFA’s work. Food Guardian Job Description Food Guardians advocate for, promote and create a sustainable food system, including access to healthy food for all residents in the BVHP. The Food Guardians work to create partnerships with community residents, local grocers and corner stores, and community‐based organizations to create lasting, positive change. Responsibilities will include leading education workshops, collecting and sharing research and information, and conducting outreach to build momentum in the community. With new funding, the job role is expanding to incorporate physical activity related issues as well. Food Guardians will reflect the diversity of the BVHP community. We encourage applicants with a variety of language and cultural competency skills to apply. The Food Guardians work together as a team to represent the community of Bayview Hunters Point. The team works under the supervision of the Food Guardian Project Coordinator. Job Requirements: Resident of Bayview Hunters Point or southeast SF neighborhood Ability to work with diverse people throughout the community Interest in community organizing around food justice and health equity Ability to work professionally and respectfully with community residents, business owners, community based organizations, health professionals, and city officials Demonstrated leadership, organizational and communication skills Preferred Skills: Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin very strongly preferred Experience with food justice, physical activity, public health, popular health education Experience with grassroots organizing and leading groups Experience with computers including internet, e‐mail, and Microsoft Office applications.
